“Corpus Ephemera” A solo art show

Save the date! Come see my solo show at Art Works Gallery opening on August 23rd 2024.

I’ve titled my show Corpus Ephemeraโ€”with the Latin word “corpus” meaning body, to conjure up a connection to Memento Mori and Vanitas paintings. These types of art are from a long tradition of symbolically depicting death and the transience of our existence.

While some of the paintings in this show more directly relate to this morbid genre, I’m also inspired by elements of Old World fairy tales and magical realism, creating an inner world inhabited by plants, animals and artifacts of the human presence, where all things manifest together within a dreamlike environment.

In considering our mortality and smallness in the universe, the storytelling approach I take with these paintings is something that evolves in meaning throughout the process. Ultimately it is a contemplation of individual identity, the connection between mind and body, and our inescapable, beautiful relationship with nature.

I hope you’ll be able to make the opening event. It should be a fun time with a variety of solo and group showings, as well as entertainment. So please come on out to enjoy!
